Indoor Air Quality with HOST

Carpet plays in important and healthful role in filtering the air indoors. It traps and holds soil, dust and allergens. The vertical pile of carpet traps and holds many times its weight in small particles, including dust and allergens that enter the indoor environment and descend onto it from above. Substantial research suggests that carpet does not release these elements back into the air. However, just as it is important to clean or replace a furnace or HVAC filter, it’s important to routinely clean carpets.

The HOST System of applying HOST Dry Carpet Cleaner to the carpet, brushing it through the carpet and then vacuuming up the HOST Dry Carpet Cleaner removes dirt and reduces allergens. Research studies have shown that one cleaning with the HOST System using HOST Machines reduces: Dust mites by 78%, Dust Mite Allergen by 75%, Cat Allergen by 85%, Mold Spores by 85%. EPA Establishment No. 074202-WI-001)

Dust Mite Allergen

A study of 25 homes in Wisconsin was conducted to determine the effect of HOST Dry Extraction Carpet Cleaning on dust mites. The study showed a 78% drop in the average mite count. An extended study of 63 homes in Georgia and Wisconsin showed mite allergen decreased by 75% one day after HOST Dry Extraction Carpet Cleaning.

This research has been peer reviewed and was one of only 500 papers worldwide that was accepted for presentation at the Sixth International Conference on Indoor Air Quality and the Environment in Helsinki , Finland .

Pet Dander

Pet allergens are one of the top indoor allergens to which people are sensitive. In 1995 and 1996, several homes with a cat in the residence for at least one year, were studied for the presence of cat allergens and the effects of HOST Dry Extraction Carpet Cleaning in reducing them.

The study established that cat allergens (dander, hair and saliva) in carpet can be decreased 85% with a single HOST Dry Extraction Cleaning of carpet. A second cleaning reduces the number of these allergens to even lower levels.

This study was presented in July 1996, at the Seventh International IAQ Conference in Nagoya , Japan .

Mold and Mold Spores

Mold spores travel with wind current and are deposited on all indoor and outdoor surfaces. Mold allergens are found virtually everywhere in residential and commercial environments.

Indoor Air Quality research showing HOST removes mold spores was confirmed by studies conducted in Wisconsin and Georgia . Mold spore levels in the Georgia test homes (humid climate decreased by 85%, while levels in the Wisconsin homes (temperate climate) decreased by 94%.

This study was also presented in July 1996, at the Seventh International IAQ Conference in Nagoya , Japan .

Perhaps there’s no greater industry that needs its carpet to remain open and in-service 24 hours a day, seven days a week than the hospitality industry. Which is why so many businesses such as hotels, casinos, restaurants, theaters, airports etc., use the HOST Dry Carpet Cleaning system to keep their carpets clean, and open to foot traffic.

Carpet downtime in the hospitality industry means lost revenue. Why shutdown large carpeted ballrooms, hotel rooms, corridors and lobbies and inconvenience customers to allow wet carpet to dry for 12 or more hours? It literally doesn’t make any sense. Since HOST is a dry carpet cleaning system, carpet doesn’t get wet. That means carpet is never taken out of service to allow for drying time.

And because HOST is a dry carpet cleaning system, maintenance staff can clean carpets any time of the day, instead of waiting until the middle of the night when foot traffic is low. Carpets can be cleaned in the same amount of time, and just as well as the hot water extraction method, but they’ll never be taken out of service for drying time.

Eliminate downtime and keep customers happy and on the go with HOST

  • No Wet Carpets
  • Deep Clean Anytime
  • Carpets Ready for Traffic Immediately
  • Spots Won't Wick Back
  • Simplifies the Job for Employees
  • Lowers Maintenance Costs

For Clean & Dry Carpet That Looks Its Best Every Day

The CAMP® system is custom designed using your floor plan and traffic patterns. It is the cost efficient way to have clean and dry carpet that looks its best every day. The plan schedules vacuuming, spot removal and strategic cleaning when and where needed. Your CAMP will be designed to achieve the following:

Prevention

Keep the dirt out of the building. 90% of the dirt that ends up in the carpet comes in on people's shoes and 85% of that dirt is dry and vacuumable. Use walk-off mats to keep the dirt out. Vacuum and clean the mats so they can keep on working. Place them at entrances to the building. They should be large enough (20 lineal feet) so that the shoes are cleaned off as people enter the building. At least 7 to 10 footsteps are required to clean the shoes properly.

Detection

Carpet gets dirty where people walk and spill. The most important areas in the building are the entrances, elevator lobbies, doorways inside the building, food service areas, break rooms, copy machine locations and main traffic areas. This is where the dirt is heaviest. CAMP identifies these areas on color-coded vacuuming and cleaning diagrams showing recommended vacuuming and cleaning frequencies for the best result.

Extraction

Remove the dirt before it builds up. The majority of the dirt (85%) in the carpet is dry dirt and can be removed by effective vacuuming. The plan calls for daily vacuuming and pile lifting of the most highly trafficked areas to remove the buildup of dirt. Spots and spills are removed as they occur. The oily, greasy dirt represents 15% of the dirt and is also found in the high traffic areas. These areas are scheduled for dry extraction cleaning on a frequency that prevents the buildup and spread of this dirt.

Inspection

Monitor and inspect the carpeted areas for best results. The CAMP system gives you the tools to inspect areas and adjust cleaning frequencies as needed. It also includes a cost analysis summary to help you with your inventory of cleaning supplies and the yearly budget.

Planning is the key... to great looking carpet at a reasonable cost

A Computer Aided Maintenance Plan (CAMP®) from HOST can help to insure that your carpet will look its best every day. Your carpet will receive the exact care needed so you can save time, effort and money. With CAMP, scheduling, inspecting and training arc much easier.

CAMP is custom designed specifically for your facility and uses your facility's floor plan and traffic patterns. In addition, CAMP can help address specific climate related problems that you might encounter or particular soiling conditions unique to your area.

Here's what CAMP includes:

  • Custom-designed computer generated plan for your total workplace
  • Detailed vacuuming and cleaning maps, color-coded for easy planning and training regardless of language barriers
  • Cost summary that makes budgeting easy
  • 12-month calendar for organizing and scheduling daily activitie
